Overview
DDM has a built-in MCP server. Through it, you work with DDM from the AI app you already use – Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Cursor, VS Code and others. You ask there, for example, "What is new in Sales this week?" or "Why can't Anna see the price sheet?", and the AI fetches the answer straight from DDM.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard through which AI apps access other applications. In DDM the feature is called AI apps – that is how it appears under Settings and under My account.
Where else DDM uses AI and what happens to your data: see AI in DDM.
How it works
- An administrator switches on the MCP server for the organisation.
- Each person connects their own AI app: they enter the server's address, sign in to DDM as usual and allow access.
- When you ask the AI something about your documents, it calls the MCP server's tools – "search documents", "read a document's text", "create a category" … – and answers with what DDM returns.
- If the AI wants to change something, it only suggests it. You see a preview and approve – or not.
The language model runs in your AI app, not in DDM. DDM only answers the app's requests – with exactly your permissions.
What you can do with it
- Find and read: search documents, read their text and have them summarised, show what is new and highlighted.
- Plan your day: appointments with their linked documents, your favourites, notes and recently opened documents.
- Handle approvals: see what is waiting for you and have the decision prepared.
- Keep the filing in order: upload, edit and delete documents, create and rename categories, refile, highlight or archive documents – with your approval.
- Analyse as an administrator: who sees what and why, who is in which group, what is in the audit log, how the app is used – and change groups and permissions, with your approval.
Examples for each role are under What you can do with it, all tools under Tools.
What the AI sees
The AI sees exactly what you see in DDM – no more:
- the same categories and documents,
- the same groups and permissions,
- the same markets and approval rules.
Tools for administration – users, groups, permissions, audit log, usage – are only given to people who are administrators in DDM.
Requirements
- Your organisation is on the Professional or Enterprise plan – see Plans.
- An administrator has switched on Enable MCP server under Settings › AI apps – see Setup.
- You have an AI app that can connect to an MCP server by its address – Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Cursor, VS Code and many others.
