Setup
Setup takes two steps: an administrator switches on the MCP server for the organisation once. After that, each person connects their own AI app – also just once. Neither administrators nor users have to copy keys or tokens.
Switching on
This is done by an administrator.
Open the settings
Open Settings › AI apps.
Enable the MCP server
Switch on Enable MCP server. From now on, the people in your organisation can connect their AI apps.
Pass on the address
Below it is the Server address, e.g. https://cms.documentdistributionmanager.com/mcp. Copy it with the button next to it and pass it on together with this page.
You decide which AI apps are allowed in your organisation in your data-protection rules – see Administration & security.
Connecting an AI app
Each person does this for themselves. After that, the app can use DDM until you disconnect it.
For this you need the MCP server's address:
https://cms.documentdistributionmanager.com/mcp
If your organisation runs DDM at an address of its own, it is that address with /mcp at the end. Administrators find the address under Settings › AI apps, with a button to copy it.
Enter the address
Enter the address in your AI app – how is described under Setup per AI app.
Sign in to DDM
The AI app opens DDM's usual sign-in. Sign in as always – with your password, single sign-on or through the directory service.
Allow access
The Allow access page shows which app wants access and what it may do: Read – and, if the app asks for it, Change, with your approval. You allow what the app asks for, or decline; there is no picking and choosing. If you belong to several organisations, choose the organisation here – the connection is for that one only. Confirm, and the AI app is connected.
Setup per AI app
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
- Open Settings › Connectors and click Add custom connector.
- Paste the address and confirm.
- Click Connect and sign in to DDM.
Claude Desktop uses the same connectors as claude.ai.
Claude Code
Add the server in the terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http ddm https://cms.documentdistributionmanager.com/mcp
Then type /mcp in Claude Code, choose ddm and sign in.
ChatGPT
Open Settings › Connectors – depending on your account, in developer mode – and add an MCP server with the address. ChatGPT then opens DDM's sign-in.
Cursor
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"ddm": { "url": "https://cms.documentdistributionmanager.com/mcp" }
}
}
Cursor shows the server in its MCP settings. Sign in from there.
VS Code
Add the server to your project's .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"ddm": { "type": "http", "url": "https://cms.documentdistributionmanager.com/mcp" }
}
}
Start the server with Start above the entry and sign in.
Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft 365 Copilot connects MCP servers through an agent you build in Microsoft Copilot Studio. Someone with access to Copilot Studio – usually IT – does this once. After that, everyone uses the agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot and in Teams, each person with their own DDM sign-in and their own rights.
- In Copilot Studio, open your agent or create one.
- Choose Tools › Add a tool › New tool › Model Context Protocol.
- Enter:
- Server name:
DDM - Server description: for example "Search and read documents, categories, appointments and approvals in DDM, and propose changes". The agent uses it to decide when to ask DDM, so describe what your DDM holds.
- Server URL:
https://cms.documentdistributionmanager.com/mcp
- Server name:
- Under authentication, choose OAuth 2.0 and the type Dynamic discovery. Nothing else is needed: Copilot Studio finds DDM's sign-in by itself and registers there. Choose Create and Next.
- Under Add tool, choose Create a new connection, sign in to DDM and allow access. Then Add to agent.
- Try the agent in Copilot Studio's test pane, for example with "What's new in DDM this week?".
- Publish it under Channels › Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Whoever uses the agent for the first time is asked in the chat to sign in to DDM and allow access. You approve proposed changes in the CMS under AI actions – see Approving changes.
Other AI apps
Any app that connects to MCP servers by address (transport "Streamable HTTP", sign-in through OAuth) works. Enter the address – the sign-in does the rest.
Disconnecting
You see your connected AI apps under My account. Disconnect takes an app's access away at once. To use it again, connect it anew.
